PS: Some links are affiliate links that I get a kickback from. And since affiliate sales are a slippery slope to shill-ness, here are some rules I follow to preserve the integrity of each review.
1. Only feature good products. This means that I say no to some offers and that I don’t have to spend too much time on the negatives. But I understand that only saying good things about a product can seem inauthentic. So that brings me to my next thing.
2. Avoid hyped-up language. I may have done this in the past and that sucks, but I now avoid using words like “game-changing” and other forms of hyperbole. I want to talk like a friend, not an influencer. I might get a little flashy in my titles and thumbnails, but even then, I stay far away from language that reeks of exaggeration.
3. Being different is better than better. I used to make a lot of walkthroughs, but everyone else makes those, so I avoid them when possible. Instead, I try to find a unique yet insightful take to help clarify whether something is worth trying.

    The folks over on the Anthony Marinelli channel hooked one of these up to a bunch of analog synths and were marveling at what it let them do with the ARP 2600 and older stuff (when you have a lot). I think there is a lot of potential in there for doing some neat stuff.

      There are two things up with my wool hat. The first, is that I genuinely like it. I appreciate the color, material, and the way it keep my head warm. The second thing is that I’m growing out my hair so my hair is in a very awkward stage. So I find the wool hat to be a lesser evil than seeing my hair.

  • @JeffyG
    @JeffyG 12 днів тому

    Totally agree with this list! Thanks for bringing the MG soft nylon from Spitfire to my attention - gotta pick that up! Spitfire always has great quality stuff. I see you skipped Ujam despite them pushing hard to compete with Native Instruments Guitar Session instruments. Any reason?

    • @ThisIsOnesto
      @ThisIsOnesto 10 днів тому

      The MG Soft Nylon still impresses me. It’s stupid how good it sounds. When it comes to Ujam, I’m very familiar with their Guitar Plugins. I think Ujam has a better workflow when it comes to their patterns engine. They are plugins that I would recommend, however, I still think NI has the edge. I think NI is doing a better job with the quality of their instrument mode and effects. So I guess in conclusion, if I’m asked what are some good guitar plugins, I would mention NI and Ujam. But if I’m asked what I think are the best guitar plugins, then I would name the plugins that I listed in this video.

    • @JeffyG
      @JeffyG 10 днів тому

      @@ThisIsOnesto Agreed! I have both the NI Session Guitars and the 5 Ujam guitar VSTs as well as the Heavocity nylon guitar and some freebies from Ample. Ujam is the easiest to use as a beginner, but I’m a 40-year-guitar player, so the sound of the results matters more to me than easy of use. As a result of a recent illness, neuropathy in my hands makes it difficult to play acoustic and electric guitar, so I started playing with the available virtual guitar instruments. NI definitely has the edge, but they’re heavily invested in patterns, whereas I’d prefer to program my own patterns as midi, then pick the sounds and articulations I like best. So far, most virtual guitar instruments are aimed at non-guitar players. Maybe that will change?

    • @ThisIsOnesto
      @ThisIsOnesto 8 днів тому

      @@JeffyG I hope that does change, or at least becomes more guitar player friendly. The good news is that there's been a lot of development in recent years. And sorry to hear about your neuropathy, that's terrible, especially for a musician. I hope that technology helps you still connect to playing in a whole new way. I hope you're surprised at what you can do and more.

  • @JeffyG
    @JeffyG 12 днів тому

    Despite the flaws folks point out, it’s still the best available midi controller - unless you program a more General midi controller from Novation, M-Audio or Arturia. So, for out-of-the-box integration with Native Instruments software and most DAWs, what are your options? I’m holding off to see if NI offers a firmware upgrade to the MK3. Hopefully, midi 2.0, maybe Machine 2.0 software, etc. I’ll wait.

    • @ThisIsOnesto
      @ThisIsOnesto 10 днів тому

      Thanks for your input. I’m pretty much on board with your evaluation. I know that NI has more updates in the works for MK3, so I’m excited to see how the MK3 develops. I think it’s smart to hold off, or at least save up money for the MK3 or another controller that catches your eye.

  • @JeffyG
    @JeffyG 12 днів тому

    Easily the best video on Cube! Straight to the point. I’m new to Cube and excited about it, but not clear on where I’ll use it? What genres do Cube multi-samples really support? Sure - Lunacy will say “any genre” but we’re creating new and unique sounds song listeners have not heard before. Some pop songs gain notoriety because of a unique sound, but for most audiences they expect to hear piano, organ, guitar or something else familiar. I’m struggling to fit Cube into my more traditional pop songs.

    • @ThisIsOnesto
      @ThisIsOnesto 10 днів тому

      Hey, thanks for watching my video, and I’m really happy you found it helpful. I understand your concern, it’s a question that I had about Cube’s utility. I’ll start with saying that Cube has a lot more preset packs that help answer that question. For example their Sky pack is all about guitars, so you’ll find some sounds that are guitar heavy. But besides that, I think Cube is best for “sound design” sounds and pads. If I need a unique sound that ranges from beautiful to weird Cube is a great place to check out. And for pads there’s a lot of cool presets that sound really gorgeous. That’s where I had the best luck with it. You can upload your own samples and make whatever you want with Cube, but when I reach for Cube it’s because I quickly need an interesting pad, or I quickly want a sound that sounds like I spent a lot of time crafting it.

      @ThisIsOnesto 10 днів тому

      Thanks for watching! I have not tried the Akai MPK Mini Plus. I have looked into it, but haven’t taken a closer look yet. So all I’ll say is that if you appreciate and like Arturia plugins than I think you’ll be really happy with the Minilab 3. The good news is that the Minilab 3 is very affordable. And if you buy it from a place like Amazon or Guitar Center, it’s pretty easy to return a product even if you don’t like it.

I was wondering though if you wouldnt mind my asking if you would find it better to use it on each individual track or just toss it on the masterbus and click play? Im doing some weird Crywolf meets Kingdom Hearts meets Post-hardcore kind of stuff and so this seems like it could help alot but im just a little confused on how to go about it 😅

    • @ThisIsOnesto
      @ThisIsOnesto 13 днів тому

      Your music project sounds amazing. And I totally get the confusion. pretty much I like to put Neutron on instrument groups or my lead sounds. I don't put Neutron on one-shots, fxs, or elements that aren't essential. The biggest reason is to save on CPU usage and if you plan on using visual mixer, I like for visual mixer to analyze sounds that are heard throughout the track rather than something that just appears for a quick second. Hopefully this helps, and good luck on writing!

    Hi, great videos. I don't like kk 3.0. can I resinstal kk 2.9.6 on my Mac running Sonoma? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

      There's a lot of great ƒree instruments inside Labs, but i think the vintage electric piano is one of their most useful ones. Thanks again for watching!

    what about if i have an NI A series Keyboard what do you think of buying de S49 MK2 or do you think that its better choice de mk3. the mk2 in my country used cost 50% less than the mk3

    • @ThisIsOnesto
      @ThisIsOnesto 18 днів тому

      For you situation, I would recommend getting the MK2, since it's 50% less than the MK3. It'll feel like a big upgrade compared to the A Series.

      Thanks for the feedback! For all my videos, I try to keep them moving, but keep the teaching as effective as I know how. Glad you know a whole lot more about reverb types

      I think at the price point and for 88 keys, the key quality is worth it. Of course, you can find better keys, but you'll likely be paying more.
